Make note of Gaming Bits’ post covering Gears of War 2 Developer Midnight Launch Events. World-class cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Bellvue (Bellvue?), and London are carrying in the launch with style and fun, but you can still likely find a slightly less glamorous release party at one of many stores like Best Buy. The Gears of War 2 release date has begun, and it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a place that will be open late, so why not give it a try?

But before you run out and shell out the cash, stop to consider this: (especially if multiplayer is your thing) GameCherry, gaming site (duh) says “Epic Gets Creative With GOW2 Resales”. A little pack of multiplayer maps (the number come to five) that you’ll recognize from Gears of War 1 will be installable in Gears of War 2, but there’s a safeguard build to hinder the sales of used copies - the maps can’t be installed on a second 360, so if you buy a used copy, and the previous owner installed these maps, you won’t have access to them. It’s a pretty big detail for Xbox Live junkies.

There’s a site that says it’s got the up-and-up on What Multiplayer feels like in Gears of War 2. Known as Gameguru.in, the site said this (just work around the weird wording): “There is no more sticking to walls, players can wall bounce but again it’s not as fast enough. They can also break out of their slide before going into cover, the party system very similar to Halo games made by Bungie.” Oh darn, a Halo comparison! Doesn’t sound so bad…

Second up, a quick piece named Gears of War 2 Spoilers (Sort of), by Chris Buffa of GameDaily. Chris writes: “What Microsoft doesn’t want you to know about its big, bad sequel.” Besides “sort of” spoilers there are also some great shots that could be used as Gears of War 2 backgrounds…

Well it seems that all the shots we have are only from the 360 version, because this came out: CliffyB - Gears of War 2 “definitely not” Coming to PC. N4G wrote: “Gameplayer spoke with Gears of War 2 lead designer CliffyB today and unearthed the info that unlike the original, there is no way the sequel will come to PC. He also mentions its dismal PS3 potential.” From here on out the only Gears of War 2 screen shots will be from 360…

This week, there are some Gears of War 2 pics creeping out of the news and rumors fog.

But first off, let’s cover the suspiciously priced Gears of War 2 Limited Edition. GameXtract reports: “I like getting my video games cheaper. Especially when I don’t have to wait for three months till everyone else doesn’t give a dam about the game. It looks like ToysRus is trying to get an upper hand on pre-orders this year with Gears of War 2. The limited edition is listed on the site for $59.99 instead of the regular $69.99 found at many other retailers.” What do you think of that? Extra Gears of War 2 toys for zilch!

Now onto the Gears of War 2 screenshots news: Leaked Gears of War 2 multiplayer screenshots. Split-screen reports: “In order to refrain from spoilers another little piggy sent us the list of multiplayer maps and a couple of snaps, in case you are one of those who loves whispering Marcus Fenix into someone’s ears then its time to get those chainsaw’s outta here.” The images are too blurry too qualify for decent Gears of War 2 wallpapers, appearing to be pictures from a camera shooting a TV with the game playing on it. At least they give us an idea of what to expect soon…

Lastly, official words from Epic themselves (via CVG), following the announcement that the game has gone gold, came across the internet: “After two years of pouring our heart and passion into Gears of War 2, the team is immensely happy with what we’ve created,” said design director Cliff Bleszinski. “This is Epic’s best work yet, and we can’t wait to see the response from fans and newcomers to the series alike.” We still have to wait until November before we’ll get the best Gears of War 2 desktop wallpaper, which can’t come soon enough!

Straight from our favorite source for Gears of War 2 news and rumors are some select bites of the cool and ridiculous.

The Gears of War 2 Experience: E-Day Emergency Call is a funny marketing move that hopes to get gamers hyped-up for the impending Gears of War 2 release date. The interactive “experience” is a chance for people to call a a toll-free number from Microsoft Game Studios and leave a message as “a terrified Seran on Emergence Day.” The number is 1-800-598-6379. According to the folks at teamxbox.com: “Get your friends to help and let loose. Remember, it’s E-Day, so nobody’s seen a Locust or heard of Delta Squad before. And bonus points for keeping the language fairly clean. We will immortalize the best five entries on our site.” There’s a few simple rules to follow, so read through the official post (no obscene stuff, duh). You might want to practice your most desperate voice acting before trying a go as one of the Gears of War 2 soldiers, since you can bet there will be some stiff competition.

Next up: the rather bizarre Gears of War 2 Limited Edition Energy Drink. According to the people at ButtonMasher.com: “Microsoft and Demon Energy Drink are teaming up to run a promotion at the launch of Gears of War 2. The promo will include limited edition Demon Energy Drink cans and bottles as well as a competition to win the first copies of Gears of War 2 in the world.” We wonder if the energy drink will resemble the imulsion from Gears of War Two. Would a Gears of War 2 sniper, choose to fuel his focus with caffeine?

Lastly, gamers in the UK got the chance for a seriously pimped-out weapon: Gears 2 and replica gold lancer for £129. According to Xbox360Fanboy.com, “Not to be confused with the Gears of War 2 in-game gold plated Lancer, UK retailer gamestation is offering diehard fans the chance to own a replica gold painted Gears Lancer. The same toy Lancer that’s available exclusively on Amazon.com, but with a fancy gold paint scheme. If you’re interested in owning one of these bundles, you better start saving up already. The Gears of War 2 gold plated Lancer bundle (collector’s edition plus Lancer) will set you back a hefty £129.” Sound worth it? The roster of Gears of War 2 toys has expanded, just possibly into the silly realm. If you can’t get your hands on the gold lancer (or wouldn’t want that much bling), there’s still the “more realistic” replica. Apparently there are some really useful things you can use the best of the Gears of War 2 guns for.
